100 Things I Love....

As my first real post, I thought it be fitting to include this little article from a not-so-little movie blog called The Droid You're Looking For. For anyone who's watched the first Star Wars movie (the first REAL Star Wars film that counted), you can tell from the title that this blog is a bit of the silly, fanboy variety. Various film blogs run the gamut from DIY film commentary and entertainment to paid/published serious criticism. But I'd like to argue (or at least hope) that they all stem from a similar, personal, deeply-rooted passion and love for the cinematic medium. Here's where this blog's refreshing post on the "100 Things I Love About The Movies" comes in.

*Casablanca
The article is exactly that, a list of the blogger's personal loves in everything cinematic. No more, no less. And it brings an absolute smile to my face.
The more you know about movies, the more you'll identify with the list. It hits such a range of genres that even Netflix wouldn't have a category to fit all in (though I'm sure they'd make one up as soon as they could) - drama, sci-fi, foreign, black and white, foreign, adventure, comedy (#10. "To-ga! To-ga! To-ga!) and more. While there are a few entries I don't quite get, about 1/5 of it would be included in my own personal list, including #16. Humphrey Bogart, #24. Heath Ledger as The Joker and #12. This wallet

*Pulp Fiction
*The Dark Knight
More than the list itself, I love the whole idea behind it. Cinephiles (self-proclaimed film-lovers) know, that it's details that make movies great, and make you absolutely love 'em. And you don't have to be a cinephile to feel that. They're the small moments in movies that all of a sudden become something so much more. These moments, people, images and feelings can stick with you forever. The idea of the list works almost as a defense, a go-to declaration for why movie bloggers, writers, audiences, and makers do what they do, even when sometimes it doesn't seem all that clear.
There's a whole lot of cynicism out there in film criticism, enough to turn a person off it all together. But pieces like these, made with purely simple positivity and admiration, can re-affirm any doubter's passion.

So here's the link, check it out: 100 Things I Love About the Movies
